[They had been a brief glance at his deep-seated fears, hardly worth his initial notice. Of course, once Spock reacts to them, he realizes what was seen. There's a hot wave of embarrassment--that's not really something he'd ever intended on sharing. It was something so deeply personal, so opposite of the usually cocksure James T Kirk. At this point, he was grateful Spock couldn't see his face, but the back of his neck is a bit hotter.

Their cord brightening from Spock's end is comforting , but the words that flowed across to him were even more so. There was something behind the words in the mindscape that he didn't think he'd understand if they were just spoken. He responds physically by relaxing slightly, as much as he can in this position, and by reaching out telepathically along their bond to meet Spock's presence.

His fingers laced in those held over his heart give a small squeeze, his embarrassment slowly fading as he feels just how important this bond is to Spock.]
